ABOUT ABOUT

It's Summer! That means vacations, travel and... the fact that it's almost impossible to schedule an 8 week Improv class.

So, we've partnered with The MACC to bring you 12(!) different one-night Drop In Improv classes!

Each Drop In is a 2-hour workshop, that delves into a different aspect of Improv. From our Crash Course for the absolute beginner, to a deep dive into how to play a great Bad Guy, you're sure to find one (or more!) Drop Ins to help you level up your Improv Skills.

The cost for each workshop is just $15, and you can reserve a seat here, or pay at the door. (The "Improv for Kids" and "Improv for Teens" workshops are just $10 each!)

Drop Ins are on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. Here's the current schedule. (Some classes are still being worked out, so this schedule will change and be updated soon.)

Tuesdays:

  • June 6th - "Exploring Endowments: Playing Characters That You Didn't Choose"
    Taught by Steven "Diz" Disbrow.
In this workshop, we'll look at how to handle those character and personality endowments that might otherwise catch you off guard. So the next time you get "Millard Fillmore" in a game of Party Quirks, you'll be able to handle it with ease, instead of having to ask, "Who's that?"
  • June 13th - "I'm the Bad Guy: How to be a Good Bad Guy"
    Taught by David M. Sarton.
The urge to be loved, to be the hero of a scene, limits one’s character choices and reduces the potential for dramatic tension. Time to leave behind those goody two-shoes urges, folks! Learn how to create a good villain, how to be evil without shame, how to seem truly threatening (while still being a good scene partner), and how to lose to the heroes when it’s time.
  • June 20th - "Improv Crash Course: The Absolute Beginner's Intro to Improv Comedy"
    Taught by Steven "Diz" Disbrow.
In this workshop, you'll learn the rules of Improv Comedy and get up and play your first Improv games, all in just 2 hours!
  • June 27th - "Creating Characters Worthy of Love: Get to the Root of What a Character Wants"
    Taught by Bethany Morgan
Get to the root of a character’s want and how it can drive action in a scene, learn how to relate to other characters genuinely while exploring the depths of your own character in the moment.
  • June 27th - "Improv Crash Course 2: The Absolute Beginner's Intro to Improv Comedy"
    Taught by Steven "Diz" Disbrow.
On June 20th, a massive tree fell across the road at the bottom of Signal Mountain, which kept several students from making it to the original "Improv Crash Course" workshop. So, we're offering it again on the 27th! If you missed it the first time, don't miss it now! In this workshop, you'll learn the rules of Improv Comedy and get up and play your first Improv games, all in just 2 hours!
  • July 11th - "Improv For Kids: An Introduction to Improv for Kids Aged 7 to 12"
    Taught by Beth Carroll
Looking for a fun new hobby for your pre-teen to try out? Well, look no further than this Introduction to Improv created just for them! They'll learn the rules of Improv and play their first Improv games in this two hour workshop. Just $10!
  • Up Next --> July 18th - "Lights! Camera! Improv!: Learn to Improvise an Entire Movie!"
    Taught by Steven "Diz" Disbrow
*** START TIME FOR THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN MOVED TO 7:30PM! ***

In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of the “Movie” Long Form. It starts with a general overview of the format, and then there's a deep dive into the particulars that make it stand out as one of the most fun Long Forms you can perform in. The last 45 minutes of the class will be spent putting it all into action to create a Movie of our own!

Thursdays:

  • June 8th - "Fundamentals of Scene Work: Step Into the World of Long Form Improv"
    Taught by Jason Parker
Step into the world of long form Improv as we work on the essential elements of scenes.
  • June 15th - "The Pineapple Problem: Be Inspired by Every Suggestion"
    Taught by Bethany Morgan
Learn how to be inspired from an audience suggestion rather than feeling stuck with whatever is shouted towards the stage; be moved by “pineapple,” conjure a character from “airport,” and what to do when you have no idea what the suggestion means!
  • June 29th - "The Quiet Storm: Using Silence to Make Meaningful Scenes"
    Taught by David M. Sarton
The Stone-Faced Gaze. The Slow Burn. The Penetrating Stare... One of the most powerful tools in Acting is Silence. So, why don't Improvisors use it more often? In this workshop, you'll learn how and when to use silence to heighten your scenes and make them more meaningful.
  • July 13th - "Improv For Teens: An Introduction to Improv for Teens Aged 13 to 17"
    Taught by Beth Carroll
If your Teenager is interested in theater, acting or comedy, this Introduction to Improv will be the perfect way for them to try out all three at once! They'll learn the rules of Improv and play their first Improv games in this special two hour workshop. Just $10!
  • Up Next --> July 20th - "Heightening With Emotions: Get Honest and Take Your Scenes to New Heights"
    Taught by Bethany Morgan
Paint with all the colors of the emotional rainbow while heightening your scenes. This session will focus on honest reactions to what’s happening in the scene right now.
